Vulci Naturalistic Archaeological Park
In the place where today there is the Archaeological Naturalistic Park of Vulci, near Montalto di Castro in the province of Viterbo, there once existed the homonymous Etruscan city, one of the largest city-states of Etruria. Visiting the park is like entering a time machine when, under the domination of the Roman Empire and the Etruscan people, the city of Vulci experienced a period of great splendor: in the center the ancient city, around the necropolis and along the extra-urban roads the sanctuaries. Today, of all this, precious testimonies remain to be admired in the paths of the archaeological area. The symbol of Vulci is the Abbazia Castle which rises above the Fiora river and which houses the important National Archaeological Museum. But certainly the most important element is the necropolis about 1 km from the castle, the famous city of the dead, with tombs dating back to about 2700 years ago, such as the Cuccumella tumulus, the tomb of the inscriptions and the François tomb. Through the findings it is possible to rediscover the traditions, songs and dances of the Etruscans. Ancient paths that lead to ancient thoughts, to discover one of the most fascinating civilizations of the past. The story that merges with the present: this is the natural park of Vulci. Here there are not only excavations and funerary finds but also concerts, walks under the stars and initiatives that involve children and adults.
